The Power to Create Through One Word

2014 has invited me to expand my life through the power which comes from focusing on one word!  Simple?  Unfortunately “simple” is not my word.   I’m not prepared to report on or rate this process…YET,  what I can say is the act of choosing my word was anything but simple.  The theory is if one chooses just one word to give ones full focus one may transform their life.  Cool Right!   (Cool’s not my word either).     In Brandi fashion I like to take it to the canvas.  If you would like to explore the process of transforming your life with One Word, come join me and others as we Play with Paint.  The first class in the Elegant Design Studio will set us on adventure to excavate our 2014 Word and then we’ll create a painting which will be our Vision Board for the year!  A beautiful reminder of the direction we are headed encapsulated with the beingness of our active choice.  No, I haven’t shared my word, I’m saving for Thursday!

If you can’t make this Thursday’s class take a moment to look at where you’ve been, which direction your headed, what themes are swirling around your world and allow the words to flow until one becomes  (like my 4-year-old) screaming out “Listen to Me” “Look at Me” study me and unleash the power of your very own word!

2013 will live on as the year my expression added another courseIMG_0077 with the help of the newest artist’s in town.  My focus became centered on  projects where the Viewer became the Artist to which I collaborated.  My wishes came true as organizations, individuals, groups, schools and Not For Profits became my partners.  Playing with Paint grew into a pop up studio which found me IMG_7622popping up in board rooms, driveways, back yards, garages, dining rooms, back porches, hotels, schools, restaurants, private clubs on the 40th floor (thank goodness for loading docs and elevators) new places, themes and projects grew as the year unfolded.   Playing with Paint traditional paint on canvas continues to be a crowd favorite to spark inspiration allowing the inner artist to be heard, which for some it was asked  to paint on Peace Poles, picnic tables, doors and walls.IMG_6430IMG_7632   Thank you 2013 for bringing into my life so many amazing new friends who if even for one moment choose to connect with their inner artist and touch mine.

The Tale of Two Tables

When the CF office called with the dream to create 2 children’s picnic tables  for auction, one at 65 Roses and the other at Band of Roses,  the Yes came before the final details had been explained.

IMG_7613

My partner in this crime CF Supporter and Starpoint mother Courtney Kennebeck invited local children diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and their families to become artist for the afternoon along with children from Starpoint School who volunteered to support and add their creative touches.  The Rose (Table #1) made it through the auction process and has found a loving home and now it’s Brother table, inspired by the themes music and sports, is now headed to the auction block this Saturday November 9th.

With mixed emotions I set this project free to go out and do what it was created to do… inspire a generous donation to the CF organization, bring fun and beauty to some child’s life and backyard and forever tell the story of why and from whom is was created.

IMG_7612

I’ve lost count on the hours it took to create these truly one-of-a-kind pieces, however I’ve not forgotten the community effort given by the families who showed up to paint and my own personal  support staff who continued to help and come back (3x a charm) to work on the detail and final touches.   This piece will always live in my heart and will remind me

IMG_7611of the long conversations with friends, Christy showing up with moral support both spiritually and with spirits, Ms. Courtney’s catering expertise and when the children  had enough brush strokes Daddy Day Care/pizza delivery boy swooped in on a white horse (Tahoe) as the damsels kept the paint flowing into the late hours of the night!  This piece became way bigger than the first “YES”,  the labor became the love for all those involved we evolved!  Acrylic Paint on Wood with love, friendship and generous spirits.

This piece can adorn your yard or play room by making a bid at the Band of Roses Event or commenting to this post!  An Amazing Christmas gift (yes i said it Christmas) how cool to find this under the tree!!! If this isn’t the piece for you remember your favorite artist, as shopping season starts,  original artwork is a fabulous way to say Merry Christmas!  Cheers-Brandi C.

Eat Paint Love

Artistic expression can be found wherever the viewer decides to look.  A good friend introduced me to The Community Food Bank and I was blessed to be shown how they express their love and commitment to our community.  Everyday Rudy and Regena Taylor, their team of volunteers and staff take what looks like waste to some, retired food products, VHS Tapes (yes they have a use) and all the other discarded, expired and no longer loved items from our community.   With open  hearts and arms they take it all in and do their magic.  Just like my reclaiming art projects they start every day taking our trash and transforming it into someone’s treasure.

After my first visit I was drawn back to the unusual wonderland and the people who give it heart.  I then introduced my son Logan who at 10 years old has found a new passion spending his Saturday mornings assisting Mr. Rudy in the daily tasks.

Wednesday Community Art Project. Start with nothing.

Wednesday Community Art Project. Start with nothing.

Rudy and Regena also wear the Starving Artist cap as Rudy vacillates between getting their trucks filled with food,  unloading through the back door just in time as the receivers line up at the front door.   Those in line are families of our community, who have many stories of why they desire to eat that day.  One may find Regena in the office raising funds to keep the staff paid, refrigerators cold and these days raising funds for the repairs to the building which houses this amazing operation.

I love Regena and Rudy for the role they play in our community.  Because they take the expired, unwanted foods from our local stores we benefit by reduced prices for our products, if all these

items became a loss for the store and went into a dumpster we would pay the extra in food cost.  They transform our waste which would be an additional cost to us and turn it into the next meal for those who because of job loss, illness, fear, or trauma are hungry and praying for food.  Having Rudy and Regena  on watch,  every child in our community and  their pets get fed today!

I have so many more words I could share about why I pray for the mission of this magical place.  It feels sharing would be a more

powerful expression.  Will you come and explore with me, paint with me, eat with me and fall in love with our Community Food Bank?  September 19th at 6  I’ve created an evening where by your act of giving you too shall receive!  Regena and Rudy would like to feed  you and host you and share their life work.

Each participant will leave with a new original piece of art and the opportunity to collaborate on the Community Soup Painting which will be auctioned to raise funds for the Community Food Bank!

Let’s Eat and Paint while expressing our love for this amazing organization and the expression they be!  TGIF-Brandi C.

across my desk to yours.

July 23, 2013

Dear Advocate for the Arts,

Today, the U.S House of Representatives Interior Appropriations Subcommittee approved its initial FY 2014 funding legislation, which includes a proposed cut of $71 million to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This would bring funding of the NEA down to $75 million, a level not seen since 1974!
Please take two minutes to send a customizable message to your members of Congress rejecting these dramatic cuts to NEA funding.

Will you place your “Yes” vote today and have your message heard that cultivating our communities with originality, creativity, collaboration and expression through the Arts as a conduit into our lives is to be expanded and cherished and grown!  Brandi C.

Mark Your calendars August 22nd The Community Food Bank is Hosting a Playing with Paint Class.   A donation to the Food Bank reserves your easel!  Together the class will paint a Large Collaboration Piece to be Auctioned off at their Fall fundraiser! Community Food Bank Invitation

The Playing With Paint Class marked a Victory In Hoosier Land.  Thanks to all the participants who came and played with paint.  This class was marked with many very special guests, I am privileged to be inspired by each of you!-Brandi C.

It’s become my niche to paint the flag, the story started off with “My Heart Belongs In Texas”, painted in Indiana before I found my personal Independence in Texas!  The tale continued on as “My Heart Lives in Texas”(located at Michael’s Cuisine), “I left My Horse In Texas”, “Gi Gi’s Horse”, “Fortitude”, “I’m Banking on Texas”, “My Heart Struck Oil in Texas”(which got its last coat on this very July 4th), “I Toast My Girls in Texas”, and the current one in the works who currently is independent of a name, the final brush strokes and a home, which is the ultimate independent place to be!  Cheers to us for living in a home where on this day it was finalized to celebrate our individual choice and live as Independent as one desires to be!   brandi c.
